Privacy Policy — Countoff
Effective date: October 28, 2026
Countoff is an app from The Foster Music Collective, Washington, DC. It is the app version of the Collective's rhythm trainer ("Foster's Rhythm Trainer"). This policy explains what the app does with information, in plain terms.
What the app collects
The app has no accounts. It does not collect names, email addresses, or contact information.
If you enter a practice code issued by a teacher, the app stores that code on your device. When you complete an exercise, the app sends the following to the Collective's cloud database (hosted on Cloudflare):
- The practice code
- The exercise name and level
- Your score
- The date and time the exercise was completed
If you do not enter a practice code, no exercise results leave your device.
Anonymous usage counting
The app includes a privacy-friendly counting tool (Umami) that tallies how often features are used — for example, how many practice drills are completed and how many times the tuner is opened — so the Collective can tell which features help students and which do not. This counting uses no cookies, no advertising identifiers, and no names or accounts, and it is never used to identify or track an individual person.
How information is used
Exercise results are used by the teacher to follow a student's progress between lessons. Usage counts are used to improve the app. That is all.
Sharing
Nothing is sold. Nothing is shared with third parties for their own use. The app contains no advertising and no advertising tracking. Cloudflare (database hosting) and Umami (usage counting) process the limited data described above only on the Collective's behalf.
Retention and deletion
Results tied to a practice code are kept in the Collective's cloud database so the teacher can review progress over time. To ask for results tied to a practice code to be deleted, contact us at the email below.
Children
The app is used by music students, including children, under the direction of their teacher or a parent. The app collects no names, email addresses, or other personal information from anyone, including children. The only information sent from the app is the exercise result information described above, and only when a teacher-issued practice code has been entered.
